What is SofaStop?
SofaStop is an online community website for frequent backpackers and aspiring traveller’s. This fantastic service will assist backpackers and travellers find a place to stay whilst travelling and touring the world. Depending on the traveller’s itinerary, their destination of choice, SofaStop will offer an additional appeal to their touring agenda. The most attractive aspect of this service is that all accommodation is totally free! Should it be on someone’s sofa or in a spare bedroom! So if the cash flow is low and you’re on a tight budget you won’t need to worry about the cost of accommodation. The idea behind SofaStop was brought to life as a means to enhance the experience of a person travelling the world or just taking time out. SofaStop will give travellers the opportunity to meet and engage with a wide range of people from different cultural backgrounds and lifestyles. The community spirit that lays the foundation for SofaStop is both refreshing and enlightening and this helps keep the SofaStop community alive.
How did the idea of SofaStop come about?
Martin Booth, an Interactive Multimedia Design student from the University of Ulster, developed SofaStop as part of his final year project. Martin has a keen interest in travel and tourism and sought to embody this interest within his final year work.
Who is SofaStop for?
SofaStop is primarily aimed for backpackers between the ages of 18 to 30 who are interested in travelling and seek to immerse themselves within the host communities they visit. Loyal and true SofaStopper’s are devoid of shyness, enjoy the thrill of living out of a backpack and can find comfort sleeping on any Sofa!
However if you’re not one for travelling, you might be interested in inviting other’s come stay with you!
Or if you’re not into someone staying in your home, you’re not obliged too but if they are in town why not meet up and broaden your circle of contacts.
How does SofaStop work?
SofaStop is an easy to use online service with an integrated social networking layer added to the website to enhance the communication between backpackers. All you need to do is, register, login and start networking. Once you have found someone who is in a country that you are, contact the SofaStop member. You can send them a private message or use the @member service similar to Twitter.
Is SofaStop safe?
There is often stigma about allowing ‘strangers’ to stay in your home or if you agree to stay in another members home. At SofaStop we encourage safety among our members as a priority. SofaStop would like to encourage all members’ to be open an honest with each other. Make as much contact as you feel necessary with person you intend to meet. Ensure that they have a full profile of information and a profile image. You are also able to see whom that person is friends with, so if you are in doubt you can ask other members for further information. However if you have any doubt do not hesitate to contact admin.
